We are looking forward to working with you in August, and we can't wait to see you!
There are a few important things to know about our time together:
Meeting schedule: We meet each Tuesday and Thursday in August from 1-3 PM on Zoom. We expect you to be there, with your camera on and your mic off, for the entire class period.
We ask you to journal each Monday on a topic related to each week's theme. The journal reflections can be simply 1-2 pages each about questions you have or reflections on the upcoming week's subject matter. Your reflections will help guide discussion in your breakout rooms each Tuesday.
Our daily schedule is as follows:
1: Meeting and checking-in
1:05-1:20: Breakout rooms for students and sharing journal reflections
1:20-2: Curriculum in popular education format on day’s subject matter
2-2:15: Stretching, breathing, and/or somatic body-centering practices to calm the nervous system and teach self-regulation
2:15-3: Facilitated discussion and check-out
Zoom: We will send you a link to use for each class via email. This link is for you only. Please DO NOT share it with anyone else.
Participation: Our meeting space is a place for Black students only. Nuff said.
What we expect from you: : Kindness and respect are our norms. We expect you to show up, engage us and your classmates respectfully, and communicate your needs to us directly as they arise.
What you can expect from us: Care, support, frankness, patience, non-judgment, and guidance. We are here for you. We are honoured to work with you.
