Friday, August 26, 2022: Welcome Gathering and Community Meal

Students are invited to come meet other attendees and share a meal.


Saturday, August 27, 2022: The African Nova Scotian Freedom Summit


10-5 PM

Saint Mary's University

CLARI room (above library, in the glass atrium)

  • 10: Welcome and breakfast

  • 10:30-11:45: Morning workshop sessions

  1. "We are one": Tips on improving connections to the mind, body, and emotions

  2. "Who we are": Groundings on identity, culture, and tradition

  • 11:45-12:15: Free time

  • 12:15-1: Shared lunch and option to attend Q & A College 101 workshop with SMU's Black student advisor, Bria Symonds

  • 1-2:30: Group activity and debrief

  • 2:30-4: Afternoon workshop sessions

  1. "Blackness and creativity": Afrocentric symbolic art workshop

  2. "What is your Black excellence?": T-shirt making workshop

  • 4-5: Collective gathering/wrap-up

  1. "Understanding Ujamaa": Blackness, wealth, and the "extended family"
